Rawlings Stinson Park

The Heart of Downtown Manchester

Situated along Memorial Drive in downtown Manchester, Rawlings/Stinson Park is the community’s central gathering place. With its spacious grounds, riverside setting, and covered pavilion, the park has become the hub for festivals, concerts, and family-friendly events throughout the year.

A Park with a Story

The park was established to honor James Rawlings and Bert Stinson, two local leaders who devoted their lives to building up Clay County’s civic and cultural life. Over time, it has grown into more than a green space—it is a symbol of community pride, where Manchester comes together to celebrate, reflect, and connect.

Home of the Red Bird Petroglyph

One of the park’s most unique features is its role as the permanent home of the Red Bird Petroglyph. After the sandstone slab tumbled from its cliffside perch in 1994, the city carefully moved it here for safekeeping. Today it sits under a protective shelter, where visitors can view the mysterious carvings up close and learn about their place in local legend.

Water Access: Fishing & Kayaking

Rawlings/Stinson Park offers more than dry land recreation:

  • Boat Ramp & Creek Access – The park includes a concrete boat ramp directly onto Goose Creek, ideal for launching kayaks, canoes, and light trailered boats (single lane, paved surface with paved parking, open year-round during limited hours). • Fishing Opportunities – Anglers can bring their gear to cast for fish like muskie, catfish, crappie, bluegill, and trout—all within easy reach of the ramp or creek banks. Kentucky Tourism

  • Kayaking & Floating – The slow-moving water is a great avenue for relaxed paddling. In fact, community floats—from the Saltworks boat ramp to Rawlings/Stinson Park—have offered free cookouts, music, and gathering by the creek’s edge.

Events & Attractions

Rawlings/Stinson Park is designed to bring people together. Key features include:

  • Outdoor Amphitheater & Stage – A centerpiece for live music, summer concerts, and community performances.

  • Walking Paths & Open Green Space – Perfect for families, fitness, or simply relaxing outdoors.

  • Volleyball Area – A sand court where friends gather for casual games and local tournaments.

  • Pavilions & Picnic Areas – Available for public use and private rentals, making the park a favorite for reunions, birthdays, and community cookouts.

  • Festival Grounds – Home to Manchester’s biggest events, from holiday celebrations to seasonal markets.

Park Guidelines

To ensure a safe and welcoming environment, visitors are asked to follow a few simple rules:

  • Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash at all times.

  • Please help keep the park clean by disposing of trash and pet waste in designated bins.

  • Be respectful of scheduled events and shared spaces.
